Executive Director
Kristi Cleghorn
I grew up with a deep, personal understanding of the importance of inclusion and support for individuals with intellectual disabilities, thanks to my sister, Stephanie, who inspired my passion for advocacy and education. Her influence led me to a 14-year career in public education, including nine years in a self-contained classroom where I focused on teaching alternative curricula and life skills. I earned both my Bachelor’s degree in Learning and my Master’s degree in Teaching from Missouri Baptist University. To further enhance my expertise, I obtained an Autism Specialist credential from Southeast Missouri State University and a Down Syndrome Specialist Certificate from the Down Syndrome Society of Greater St. Louis. My work has always been driven by a commitment to creating inclusive and empowering environments where every individual has the opportunity to thrive and reach their full potential.

Human Resource Manager
River Fuller
With over two decades of experience in Human Resources, I have cultivated a diverse and dynamic career. My journey began as the Director of Administration for an international consulting company in the oil and gas sector, where I dedicated over 11 years to driving organizational success. Transitioning from the corporate world, I spent the next 12 years managing professional athletes on a global scale, leveraging my expertise to support their careers and personal development. My unique blend of administrative acumen and talent management has equipped me with a comprehensive skill set, enabling me to excel in various high-pressure environments.

QDDP
Kay Wehner
I am a dedicated professional with a passion for advocating for individuals with developmental disabilities and over 30 years of diverse experience spanning manufacturing, childcare, healthcare, and human services. From 1988 to 2013, I honed my skills in large-scale manufacturing as a machine operator for many years and then gained valuable experience in childcare and assisted living healthcare roles. In 2013, I transitioned to a career in human services, joining Terrace Gardens to support and advocate for individuals with developmental disabilities. Recognizing the importance of continuous learning, I returned to school in 2013 and earned an associate’s degree in human services management in 2015. In 2014, I joined the Independence Center of Ste. Genevieve, LLC., as a Direct Support Professional (DSP) in their first Independent Supported Living (ISL) program. As the organization grew, I advanced to the role of Developmental Disabilities Professional (DDP) and successfully managed ISLs, staff, and consumers for 8 1/2 years. Currently, I serve as a Qualified Developmental Disabilities Professional (QDDP), where I oversee ISLs, day program, staff, and administrative processes. My responsibilities include training coordination, monthly reviews, collaborating with support coordinators, and participating in annual ISP meetings to ensure comprehensive care and support. Throughout my career, I have remained deeply committed to improving the lives of others through compassion, advocacy, and effective management.

Medical Advocate
Charlene Bonnell
I have been a resident of Ste. Genevieve since I was 14 years old, and throughout my life, I have developed a deep commitment to supporting individuals with developmental disabilities. With over 20 years of experience in this field, I have had the privilege of working with diverse populations and helping those in need. Since the inception of the Independence Center in 2014, I have been an integral part of the team, initially starting as a Developmental Disabilities Professional (DDP) for our Intermediate Care Facilities (ICFs) and Residential Services for 9+ years. In 2023, I transitioned into the role of Medical Advocate, where I am responsible for coordinating and assisting our consumers with their medical needs. This includes managing doctor appointments, overseeing medication regimens, and ensuring all health-related requirements are met. My role as a Medical Advocate is incredibly fulfilling, and I take pride in providing compassionate and individualized care to each of our consumers. I truly view every person I assist as part of my extended family, and I am dedicated to ensuring they receive the best possible support for their health and well-being. This work has been both rewarding and impactful, and I am honored to continue making a positive difference in the lives of those I serve.

Office Manager
Tayon Flieg
I am a proud graduate of Ste. Genevieve High School, Class of 2014. Following high school, I earned my Associate’s degree in General Studies from Mineral Area College before advancing to Murray State University, where I obtained a Bachelor’s degree in Public Health with a concentration in Healthcare Administration. During my eight years in Murray, KY, I gained valuable hands-on experience working as a nursing assistant at the local hospital, while also balancing a variety of roles, including disease investigator for COVID-19, retail positions, and internships. This eclectic mix of work has sharpened both my compassion and my adaptability in dynamic environments. In September 2024, I returned to Ste. Genevieve, MO, where I joined the Independence Center of Ste. Genevieve in October 2024. Since then, I've been learning what it truly takes to thrive in any setting—whether it's navigating the peoples feeling with kindness and compassion or just figuring out the printing machine at work. I believe that with the right combination of hard work, continuous learning, and the occasional good laugh, any challenge is surmountable.
